Mission

Improving the lives of Individuals with physical disabilities in the Texas coastal bend through adaptive sports and recreation.

Purpose

Individuals often face isolation and a loss of purpose after sustaining life-altering injuries or illnesses that result in physical disabilities.  Such circumstances can precipitate mental and physical health problems, including isolation, depression, anxiety, and obesity.  CCRIMZ offers those in the Coastal Bend area a way to overcome these obstacles through adaptive sports, creating a community of peers with shared experiences and improving quality of life.

Who we Serve

Our participants, including military veterans, cope with physical challenges arising from conditions such as Spinal Cord Injury, Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Leg Amputation, Brain Injury, and Joint Stiffness and hail from cities across the Costal Bend area including Alice, Aransas Pass, Corpus Christi, Ingleside, and Portland, Texas.  Our participants share a love of community and connection that comes from wheelchair sports and recreation.   The organization embraces all individuals with physical disabilities, promoting diversity across age, race, gender, and socio-economic status.

Founding History

CCRIMZ evolved from several Corpus Christi disabled residents who grew up in and around the city. In 2016, as a loose association of contacts they decided to form a Wheelchair basketball team and compete in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) solidifying this groups commitment to adaptive sports. While wheelchair basketball has been the main competitive focus of the group, the group has participated in other sporting activities on a more recreational basis including fishing, softball, running/racing, and handcycling. Over the past 8 years this group has become more organized reaching out to other individuals in similar situations so that they too can realize the health, fitness and social benefits of adaptive sports and recreation.   In 2021 the CCRIMZ became a non-profit 501c3 organization.
